Hi everyone!

First of all we want to thank all the fans that have been visiting us for the past 10 months.

RyanDan Diary was first published online as a blog and started growing as time went by, but we felt that something was missing and the had the need to make it better and bigger for all the fans around the world, so we decided to turn it into a fully developed website.
This time you'll be able to access different kinds of content in a larger scale. We are still developing some sections, so please be patient.

RyanDan Diary only exists because of you fans out there and this is our present to all of you.

Album Release

This is what RyanDan have to say about the release date for their new album:

"- No date for the album release ... But we'll know more as we get closer to finishing all the songs."

They want to tour all over the world to promote their second album, so please don't despair! RyanDan might be touring in your country.

The next album will be mostly written by them and they've already written 15 songs. Recording a duet with Olivia Newton-John was something really amazing and they really like to do duets with other artists, so they will probably do it in this album.

RyanDan can't wait for us to listen the new music and they will put up some tracks as soon as they're ready to do so. They've been working with the incredible producer Steve Anderson.

RyanDan on the OST of "Gooby"

On August 22nd RyanDan gave us great news about their projects. There's a new Canadian film coming out this Fall to the big screen, it's called "Gooby" and the guys made a song for its soundtrack. We don't know the title of the song, but we will get to know it soon. Here a little synopsis of the movie:

Gooby, a scraggly, orange furry stuffed animal comes to full-sized life and befriends Willy, 11, who is convinced evil space aliens have invaded his new home. Through a series of hilarious hair-raising adventures the pair learn powerful life lessons.

Imagine if you’d had a 6-foot monster to help you through the tough times when you were eleven. Someone to live in your backyard shed, hide out in the attic with you watching monster movies, defend you against bullies, someone to be your best pal, always. And the amazing thing? You’re the only one who knows he exists. This is exactly what happens to WILLY when the stuffed toy he had as a child magically comes to life as a very real and very strange 6 foot furball – walking, talking, and marshmellow-cookie eating. Gooby is a fantastically fun Saturday afternoon popcorn movie for kids of all ages.

Working in LA

A couple of days ago we had the incredible chance to chat with RyanDan. All we know is that they are having a great time doing what they do best. To be waiting for news is a bit depressing, but we have to do it patiently, cuz it's part of our karma as fans and we will finally listen to their new album when time comes.
They are in LA working with Steve Anderson and they have been recording a lot. What we don't know is the name of one of the tracks RyanDan can't wait us to listen first. One thing we know for sure they are putting their souls and their best attributes into their songs.

One year ago a little angel went to heaven after a lot of struggle with a malignant brain tumour. Ryan and Dan's 3-year-old niece, Tal died due to the fact that she had a brain tumour and because went through a large number of chemotherapy sessions. It was really painful to see her suffering so much, but now we know she's ok. All the pain and struggle are finally over. Ryan and Dan wrote a song just for her called "Tears Of An Angel", that expresses the feeling of a great loss and a wish that it was all a lie.

She will never be forgotten by her beloved family, close friends and Ryan and Dan's fans.

This is RyanDan Diary's tribute to her.

Unbelievable Talent

This debut album by RyanDan is definitely worth listening to, and once you do you won't be able to stop listening. They have produced an album of classical pop with great songs like "High", "Like the Sun", "The Prayer" and "'ll be there". They are identical twins with identical 4 octave voices that are memorising to listen to. This is one CD you need to have in your library.

AMAZING!

This CD is absolutely amazing. Ryan and Dan Kowarsky have such shocking raw talent especially considering the fact that they have had no vocal training. The way they harmonize is absolutely beautiful and wonderful to listen to! Their songs have amazing depth and they are a breath of fresh air after most music today. Definitely deserves much more than a 5 "star" but what can we do? Either way they are absolutely amazing and EVERYBODY should give them a chance.

Ryan and Dan's vocal are outstanding. If you want something different to listen to then this will the album. It is not a pop album that is for sure. Opera like in their singing that could I say match with Il Divo, but of course they are Canadian.

As we said yesterday here's something more about the WebChat that was hosted by RyanDan:

- the guys said that they want to tour the whole world, instead of focusing only in their country;
- they'll come back to Europe to promote their new album after spending so much time in Canada;
- there are plans to visit almost every single European country as well as the rest of the world;
- they can't wait for us to listen to their new songs (they've written about 15 songs!!);
- yesterday after the Chat they went back to the studio to record some songs;
- they're still working with the incredible producer Steve Anderson;

The WebChat begun on time at 11 am (Toronto) and 04 pm (London). It was an awesome experience to chat with our two favourite singers. There were a lot of fans online from all around the world (between 50 and 100 people approximately) and it went fine. Most answered questions had to with their Canadian Headline Tour, their following album, trips around the world, funny stuff, etc. The Fans seemed very excited to have had this opportunity to chat for about 50 minutes with Ryan and Dan, that seemed very excited about it too. It seems like time flew while everyone was asking questions to the both of them. Of course they had to chose the questions that were to be answered, because most fans were posting their questions at the same time, so it was hard for them to answer everyone.
It was a very nice session and the guys said that we're going to have another chance to chat with them live.

The Questions and Answers will be posted on the social network websites and other sites by next week. Tomorrow we're going to post something more on this, so please stay tuned.

Performing since a very young age

The youngest of five children, Ryan and Dan were in fact first influenced by classical music. Their father was an opera singer and cantor in Toronto, and they frequently watched him perform from the side of the stage. Consequently, they naturally fell under the spell of the opera legends Mario Lanza and Luciano Pavarotti—but as teenagers they just as naturally gravitated to the pop harmonies of the Bee Gees, the melodies of Stevie Wonder and the smooth R&B vocals of Boyz II Men.

"We never took vocal coaching or formal lessons," says Dan. Still, he and his brother have been performing on stage in plays and musicals since they were four years old. Blessed with voices that effortlessly slide from baritone to soprano and full voice to falsetto with stunning clarity and purity, they were actually able to share the lead role in “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” in a high school production—with hardly anyone in attendance knowing for sure which one of them was in fact on stage on any given night.

What's cookin'

Their debut album was released last year in various European regions, in Australia as well as in outheast Asia and in the US by early this year. The twins have been launching a headline tour in Canada this year. It begun in June and will be relaunched in October and will end in November. For more info on their Canadian Headline Tour search for it in here.

Their sophomore album is being recorded in L.A. The fans can't wait for its release. Ryan and Dan have been writing and composing new songs for quite a while. This new album is expected to do so well or even better as the first one. There's no detailed info about it, but everyone can listen to their self-titled album until the new one is release.

We have to expect really good work from this remarkable brothers. They'll surprise everyone with this new album. Till then stay tuned for more info.

The brothers, originally from Thornhill, Ont., were teen idols some year ago, before boy-band brainchild Lou Pearlman brought the group to Germany, signing it to a label there and making it an overseas sensation.

But by the time the group was about to hit a Los Angeles studio for another album, Ryan and Dan had enough, choosing instead to move to England to work with producer Steve Anderson on new material as RyanDan.

The debut album, which came out in September 2007, has much more in common with classical/pop-leaning stars such as Il Divo or British sensation Paul Potts than NSYNC. Tracks include several orchestral, cinematic covers such as Bette Midler's Wind Beneath My Wings and The Jackson 5's I'll Be There.

In the fickle world that is the pop music business, it is rare for artists to succeed after changing their sound and image as radically as Toronto identical twins Ryan and Dan Kowarsky. They formerly comprised two-thirds of the trio B4-4, a group that achieved moderate success here before the brothers tired of the “boy band” straitjacket in which they were placed.
“We got very frustrated with doing the pop thing,” recalls Ryan. “We were playing for very young audiences. Their focus was very much on our hair, our image, our style. We’d get up onstage and sing something we were very passionate about and not necessarily get the response we were hoping for. It would be ‘you have a nice jacket,’ as opposed to anything about our voices.”
The pair have re-emerged as RyanDan, a vocal duo with a sound that fits the pop meets classical crossover style of the likes of Il Divo and Andrea Bocelli. The reinvention has paid off bigtime, as their self-titled debut album has achieved international success on a scale far beyond anything achieved by B4-4.
It came out last year, and quickly soared up the U.K. album charts, peaking at No. 7 and racking up gold sales. Similar success followed in Europe, Australia and, finally, Canada, where it reached both the Top 10 and the gold sales level.

Did you know?

- About the song "The Prayer": "That song changed everything for us," says Dan. "After we recorded it, we knew what we wanted to do with our life."

- Their parents are their number one fans: "They want to see every single interview and read everything," Ryan says. "My mom is collecting articles, while my dad, with his music and singing, critiques everything. He makes sure we're doing things the right way and properly."

- Just like their looks, the boys have identical voices so they can switch singing parts with ease. Their ranges stretch from tenor to baritone, with the odd falsetto thrown in for good measure.

- Dan is in a relationship and Ryan is single.

- Newly emerged as RyanDan, their early album track "The Face" out-performed songs by Britney Spears, Duran Duran and Fall Out Boy in artist battles featured on Toronto's CHUM-FM radio station.

- There was a vote going on at Classical X for the best CD of 2007 and RyanDan was nominated. They've won the 3rd place with 10% of the votes.
- The most important woman for them: "One woman who has been very important to us is our mother."

- What they say about Mario Lanza: “To me, he's just one of the greatest vocalists who ever lived,” says Ryan.

"When we were recording our album in London, we were shocked to get a call from our family in Toronto letting us know that our 3 and a 1/2 year old niece, Tal, had a malignant brain tumor. We flew home right away to be with her. She went through a very difficult year of treatments, but unfortunately the tumor was very aggressive, and she passed away last August. We were very close to her. Through this experience, we learned that brain tumors are the second most common cancer in children, and the main cause of cancerous death in children… yet there is still so much that isn’t known about how to prevent or treat them."

Did you know?

- Ryan and Dan started singing when they were about 4 years old and they grew up in a musical family, so it helped tremendously for them to become what they are now: amazing recording artists.

- Their style is a big mix, because they hear loads of different kinds of music, so each song that we hear in their album has a different flavour. They want us to think of their album as a meal and that we can feel full (satisfied) at end.

- Ryan doesn't know if he believes in fate, but he believes in thinking positively in your life and just pushing and making things happen yourself.

- They signed a recording deal with Universal, because the people from there offered them support since day one.

- Their first ever Canadian Headline Tour was a huge success in every city they went to and the gigs sold out very fast. The tour kicked off in Ottawa on June 18th.

"With all of the difficulties we have gone through with our little niece Tal, we try to do anything we can for children in the world. This was a perfect opportunity for us to help raise money for a great cause. It was incredible to share the stage with Bryan Adams and the rest of the performers. Bryan is someone we grew up listening to, and to actually sing with him on stage was a dream for us.

There are many, many important causes that need attention in the world today. Right now, we are focusing our efforts on paediatric brain tumor research. We are all touched by the particular things we experience in life. As time goes on and our career grows and takes us in different directions, we hope to be able to learn more about other needs, and to raise awareness and funds for other charitable causes."

Something That Changed Their Career Forever

"Our mother had just been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease," relates Ryan. "We decided that we had to give her something special," continues Dan. "So we decided to record a song."

They chose "The Prayer," a David Foster song that's one of the 13 tracks on RyanDan, their debut album. The adult-contemporary pop compilation hits stores today.

"That song changed everything for us," says Dan. "After we recorded it, we knew what we wanted to do with our life."

They went to England to work with producer Steve Anderson. After recording 50 songs with a 60-piece orchestra, they picked 12 (plus a bonus track) and made their U.K. debut a few weeks ago.

They're now near the top of the British pop charts. Since the record went global, they have sung as far away as the Sydney Opera House.

"We're just trying to make the most of it," adds Dan. He says it feels good to back in Toronto, even just for a day or two.

As we said yesterday, RyanDan took the host of the Show "York Region Dining" to their favourite restaurant in Richmond Hill called "Tomo Sushi". They gave us a tour of the place and even showed us how to cook some nice meals (sushi, chicken teriaki, etc) without revealing the cuisine secrets. Then there was a small interview about the tour, after they finally started having their meal with the host of the show. The problem with talking on the phone to identical twins is that if the twins can't be told apart when seen face to face, it's impossible to tell their voices apart during a telephone call.

It's not a problem, though, to RyanDan.

"No," explains Ryan or Dan. "We're used to it."

Ryan and Dan Kowarsky look and sound enough alike to be combined. They think as one, they sing as one.

They went to England from their home of Toronto and made a record with producer Steve Anderson. It's big and orchestral in the same way that Josh Groban is big and orchestral.

"The Prayer" and Jackson Five's "I'll Be There" are pop in the way Sarah Brightman approaches pop. It's an album that courts romance and sentimentality.

"The album actually turned out better than we expected," they declare. "In the beginning, we didn't know what direction we wanted. That's why we did so many songs."

The 13 that made it onto the album includes "The Face," the single that helped make the album gold in Canada. In concert, RyanDan are backed by an orchestra, not as big as the 60-strong ensemble that saws away on the record, but a big enough undertaking nonetheless.

"Most of the stuff is our vision," they maintain. "That's why we signed with Universal. The label let us have artistic control." In concert, though, Ryan and Dan can assert their individuality. "Absolutely," the twins exclaim.

"We're different people and when we're on stage people get to see that. It really is a huge thing for us."

RyanDan comes by their opera quotient honestly.

"We grew up listening to our father -- he was an opera singer," they say. "And our older brother was an opera singer."

What RyanDan say about B4-4

They were great salesmen some years ago: teen girls across Canada loved B4-4 in 2000, which pushed sales of the trio's self-titled debut past 200,000 units. They also earned a Juno Award nomination in 2001 for Best New Group.

"But we don't have any regrets," Dan said. "That whole experience taught us everything, how to sing in the studio, how to get on stage in front of people, how to do interviews. It got us ready for what we are doing right now." After they pulled the plug on B4-4, the brothers took some time to rethink their options. What they came up with was RyanDan, a project much closer to their hearts. "We absolutely needed to go through [B4-4] to get to where we are," Ryan said.

No longer would they colour their hair or wear makeup -- B4-4 paid great attention to the visages of Ryan, Dan and its third member, Ohad Einbender -- nor would they dance in unison.

The brothers wanted to sing the songs of their youth, from Frank Sinatra to Mario Lanza. They showcased themselves four major record companies labels responded.

RyanDan, the duo of identical twins Ryan and Dan Kowarsky, will perform at Club Soda in Montreal tomorrow evening (June 19), following the launch of their eponymous first album. Benoit Bisson has interviewed, attempting somehow differentiate Dan Ryan, and vice versa…

Benoit Bisson: For a first album, you rely not only on an impressive list of collaborators - including Terry Britten and Steve Anderson - but also on equipment which have a history: a console that has served the Beatles, micro Frank Sinatra...

Ryan: Yes, it was amazing!

Dan: We recorded the album in London, in the studio by Terry Britten. He wrote, inter alia, What's Love Got to Do With It for Tina Turner. It is a very beautiful studio. You know, there is something with an old equipment that can not be found with modern equipment. The equipment has a sound similar warm.

Ryan: Exactly! The oldest equipment is similar while modern equipment is completely digital. And, as Dan said, there is a sound much more friendly with similar equipment.

Dan: So, as you mentioned, we had the chance to record the entire album using the microphone used by Frank Sinatra, then this was a very surreal experience for us.

BB: Is it you who chose the studio or is it that this was the choice of Universal?

Dan: Universal has led us to this studio and we fell in love with, but that does not fall in love with the microphone Frank Sinatra and console used by the Beatles and the Rolling Stones!

Ryan: We sat with people from Universal and they were wonderful with us. We did not want to be stuck in the machine of a record company, as that can happen, then they tell you how you dress, what to do, what to sing. They are not at all like that.We sat with them, we have presented our vision, we told them what kind of son we wanted for our album - a very warm, a little old-fashioned, not as digital that what is done now - and they led to the studio. The result was extraordinary!

Dan: And they have presented us with Steve Anderson, who has worked with Kylie Minogue and Paul McCartney, a very talented guy. What is amazing with him is that after having met, we started doing demos with him, and he worked for free, for nothing, simply because he believed in our project.

Ryan: It is rare. Everything is a function of money today. When we found Overall, it was not a question of money. It was only a matter of creating music that we could be proud and which one was satisfied.

Dan: And 50 songs later… (laughs) We really recorded 50 songs! I think there are so many people getting an album, and you like maybe one, two or three songs. We wanted that people really appreciate this album, from beginning to end, and we were very focused on that goal. We recorded 50 songs for the album and we spent a lot of time to choose the order of parts.

Ryan: To ensure the flow and everything.

Reinvention of the guys and the final result

The pair have re-emerged as RyanDan, a vocal duo with a sound that fits the pop meets classical crossover style of the likes of Il Divo and Andrea Bocelli. The reinvention has paid off bigtime, as their self-titled debut album has achieved international success on a scale far beyond anything achieved by B4-4.

It came out last year, and quickly soared up the U.K. album charts, peaking at No. 7 and racking up gold sales. Similar success followed in Europe, Australia and, finally, Canada, where it reached both the Top 10 and the gold sales level.

In April it received a much-coveted release in the U.S., on Decca/Universal, and there’ll be plenty of appearances for the duo there. In fact, we chatted with the twins just prior to a performance in Orlando, alongside a fellow siblings group, The Osmonds.

Given that they have identical-sounding voices and often finish each other’s sentences, it’s difficult in a phone interview to identify the speaker. “Just take a guess if you want to quote us,” jokingly reassures one of the twins.

When asked to define the RyanDan sound, Ryan answers “classy pop. We have a big orchestra behind us, but we have our pop melodies mixed in. It has seemed very natural to get into the kind of music we are doing right now. We come from a very musical background. Our father is an opera singer, so we were always around voices, orchestras and choirs. We are so happy about the music we are doing now.”They received the big-budget treatment for the recording of their album, produced by Steve Anderson (Paul McCartney, Kylie Minogue) at London’s State Of The Ark Studios. A choir and 62 piece orchestra was employed, and RyanDan loved the experience. “We had never recorded in that format before. When we heard the orchestra practising on one of our songs, we said ‘why do you need our voices on this?’ It was just so beautiful on its own. And to be able to get onstage with a beautiful big orchestra, there is nothing like it. You really get the emotion of every single person playing in the orchestra, together with us. It is one big energy that goes out to the audience.”

Canadian Headline Tour 2008

This Headline Tour in Canada has been a huge success till now. RyanDan have received a standing ovation after spectacularly kicking off their tour in Ottawa on June 18th and it seems to have set a precedent.
They've delighted the fans so much, that they didn't want to go home, most people would stay there the whole night just listening to them. There were some surprises during the concerts, due to the fact they sang "You're My Sunshine" and "Broken Vow". The fans just loved it.
Way to go guys! Anne Morrone did pretty nice performances as opening act.

We mustn't forget that they still have a concert on October 1st at St Catherine's Brock University.

The standing ovation that pop-opera duo RyanDan received after spectacularly kicking off their tour in Ottawa last week seems to have set a precedent. The Toronto-raised boys, who are touring Canada for the first time ever, have been going down a storm across the country - and Sunday night's performance in Victoria was no exception.

"We want to put on a good show for the fans, so we really wanted to go all out," explain 28-year-old twin brothers Ryan and Dan Kowarsky. "Especially for this first tour!"

The pop-opera sound the hunky twosome have created marks a definite change in direction since they were members of boyband B4-4 and dancing onstage with pop princess Britney Spears and scooping a Juno nomination for best new group in 2001.

And it's hardly surprising they've been getting such a positive reaction. The dedicated double act spent hours after each gig chatting to and signing autographs for their fans.

RyanDan signed a contract with Universal Music Classics in the U.K. and recorded their self-titled album in England in the Terry Britten studio with Steve Anderson.

They enjoyed overseas success out of the gate, in Australia, Europe and Asia. "We've done a few shows here, but this is our first full-out tour in Canada," Ryan said. The trek features 12 musicians who comprise a choir and orchestra.

"It's important," Dan said. "We want to put on a good show for the fans, so we really wanted to go all out, especially for this first tour." The live show is scaled down from the 62-piece orchestra that graces RyanDan. Hearing an orchestra of that size behind them was a rush, but it wasn't the coolest part of the recording -- at least for the brothers, who shared one co-writing credit on RyanDan.

They were much more enthusiastic about a certain piece of equipment they were using. "The microphone that we recorded our entire album on was Frank Sinatra's," they excitedly said in unison.

About the last concerts

RyanDan have been doing a great job every night since June 18th. The spectators were amazed and thrilled to be in there to see them live. Anne Morrrone has been doing a great job opening the shows for them.

While the people at the Gillett Entertainment Group were pleased to attract Manilow to play the Bell Centre, they are also excited about promoting the up and coming operatic pop stars RyanDan, who will perform at Club Soda on St. Laurent Blvd on June 19th.

RyanDan is actually a play on the names of 27-year-old identical twins Ryan and Dan Kowarsky of Toronto.

They have been performing on stage, in plays and musicals since they were about four years old. In high school, they shared the lead role in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, though no one else could be sure who was Joseph on any given night.

To see how good these guys are, log on to www.ryandan.com, where a pretty impressive video showcasing their good looks and four octave ranges (voices that sound as one) comes on the screen.
This will be RyanDan’s Montreal debut. “Yes,” Ryan told me over the phone, “we like to play to small intimate crowds so Club Soda suits us fine for now. Hopefully next time around it will be the Bell Centre.”

An interesting side note about these fellows. Their dad was the cantor at Beth Tzedec Synagogue in Toronto for 20 years. While they are not religious, Ryan says they have pretty kosher dining habits. “I’d never eat bacon or lobster,” he says.

Twins make golden harmony

Brother acts in showbusiness are not new - think the Everly Brothers, the Smothers Brothers, and even The Osmonds.

But identical twins who sing? Now there's a different kind of act.

Ryan and Dan Kowarsky, born in Cincinnati and raised in Toronto, are relative newcomers to the music scene, although they were members of the boy band B4-4. Now, they are taking their good looks and four-octave-range voices on the road, melting hearts along the way, singing Il Divo-like classical songs, pop tunes and original material. Their self-titled debut CD has already gone gold in Canada and the brothers are on a tour that brings them to Centrepointe Theatre tomorrow.

"We're nervous and excited at the same time," said Ryan Kowarsky, 27, speaking over a cellphone, while brother Dan is in the car driving in Toronto. "It being our first tour, you never know how it's going to go."

But singing comes easily for them. Their father, Paul, was an opera singer and cantor and music was always heard in the Kowarsky household. "We grew up in a very musical family and we'd sit around the dinner table and sing songs. Each of us would have a different harmony and that was just life for us," he said.

And the music his father played at home - mostly the songs of Mario Lanza and Luciano Pavarotti - was not exactly pop for teenagers. They also listened to mainstream pop such as The Beatles, The Bee Gees and Boyz II Men, but the more classical stuff is what the brothers were drawn to and began to perform.

"The other day someone called us the opera twins," said Ryan. "But it's so far from opera because it's not really opera. If you were to ask an opera singer, or play our music to an opera singer, they would say that's not opera at all. They would say that's pop music."

The CD includes the Céline Dion/Andrea Bocelli collaboration The Prayer, the Bette Midler tune Wind Beneath My Wings and the original ballads Like the SunTears of an Angel, written in honour of their young niece, who died of a brain tumour last year. and

"I think it's music that you can connect to," he added. "We put as much emotion into the singing and hope that people connect with that. When we sing a song we just don't sing it, we really get into it, the words, the music, everything."

RyanDan performed yesterday at Centrepointe Theatre with special guest Anna Morrone.

York Region Dining with RyanDan - Updated Info

We kept on looking for the video in which RyanDan appear in the show "York Region Dining", but we didn't have any luck.

So we decided to e-mail the host of the show and we got some informations.
The show did air, but they didn't have it posted online. They will work to get it on our website very soon, but don't know when they can get it up. The'll aim for next week. Let's see what happens.
